Stress can do anything on earth that it wants to you. If you don’t control it, it will control you. But what is life really without stress? A little makes things interesting. But there are mild and more extreme cases of stress. Prevent the outcome of too much stress, or fight it when its here.

We all experience it. Whether your life is busy, you’ve lost something/someone, or everything/everyone around you is getting and keeping you down. Find something to keep you up. When life gives you lemons, you’ll probably sometimes want to just sit there, hide, stay to yourself and let it build up inside of you until you feel that fire in your chest that makes you just want to scream until it is out. Get out of that habit. Get help.

What are you waiting for?

Why are you waiting? Today is the day. Why wait until Jan 1? Why hold yourself back from getting the body and health and strength that you deserve? The sooner, the better, the longer you wait the harder it will be to get what you want. Start now. You do not have to go all out especially if this will be your first time in a long time working out. Set some goals. Why do you want to lose the weight? Why do you NEED to lose weight? How often are you going to exercise? Day by day little by little.

Imagine..

Just imagine achieving all of those great things that life has to offer when you have better health.

Imagine being able to go up and down the stairs faster.

Imagine being able to carry more grocery bags in the house from the car and make less trips.

Imagine lifting up your baby or chasing your kids around the house without getting out of breath.

Imagine walking up a flight of stairs without losing your breath

Imagine breathing better

Imagine being better able to handle stress. No more racing heart, no more shaking, no more headaches..

Imaging chasing down the bus or cab with ease

Imagine no more high blood pressure

Imagine no more high cholesterol

Imagine surprising your doctors at your next visits

Much much more to get from working out…

Hot Song for Your Workout Playlist

One hot new song that I recommend to get on your workout playlist is "Naked" by Holliwoodz. This song will make you dance, workout and probably get naked. Hopefully not all while in the gym. When on a run outside the voices of the singers and the beat behind the singing take me someplace else.

On their MySpace page at www.myspace.com/holliwoodzmusic they have different remixes of this song. I like the hip hop blend in the UK club mix.
Check it out.

About Holliwoodz

Imagine Usher, Lenny Kravitz and Naughty by Nature’s Treach on the same stage and you are only beginning to see the talents of these three (3) Miami based superstars who inhabit the same group, command the same stage, but come from these different worlds, where the common language for each of them is music! The Holliwoodz, a group of superstars who believe that we all have our role to play in this movie we call life and theirs is to make great music, knew when they meet that they were destined to form a group. “We’ve known each other from school and we all have the same talent. We decided to combine ourselves together.” So now meet the tremendous trio that is THE HOLLIWOODZ!

The Holliwoodz call their unique music style Dance Rock ‘n’ B. They jump through genres with easy flow and still make each sound their own! With such an eclectic range of musical tastes, the one thing that they can agree upon is that they have to respond to the music—whether rap or rock, dance or different—immediately or it doesn’t make the cut. As excited as The Holliwoodz are about their music, they are equally, if not more, elated when they bring their sizzling show to the stage. “Our shows are energy emotion and entertainment.” According to Egy “we are acrobats on stage!” The group is definitely prepared to bring “NAKED,” their hot debut single, about being comfortable in your own skin and just being on your sexy, to live audiences.

Their debut single “NAKED” is sexy and vibrant, but also has a real message about confidence! G-LIVE loves the melody and the hot production, while Egy jumps in, saying, “People need to feel comfortable with themselves. It’s beyond how you dress and what you wear. That’s a good record to start with the world. I want the world to see us that way.” Izaiah, who handled production on the sexy track, says “months after listening to it for the first time, it still pops! This song is hot!”

Holiday Eating 101

So the holiday season is here and you’re worried about gaining those extra holiday pounds or letting your time spent in the gym go to waste. Here are 13 simple tips to help you stay on track and not lose sight of your goals:

1- If your plate is large, eat ½ of it and save the rest for later or another day.

2- Drink plenty of water. To give your water a little more life, add some lemon. Lemon also aids in digestion.

3- Keep sugary drinks to a minimum.

4- Go for that Pellegrino with lemon.

5- If you know you will be drinking more than usual during that one particular week during the holidays, drink in moderation. Moderation is 2 drinks for men a day under 65 years old and 1 drink for women and men above 65.

6- If you order something such as stir- fry when dining out, ask to get the teriyaki sauce on the side. This way you control the amount of sauce that goes on the food.

7- Look for the healthy section of the menu. Many restaurants have this.

8- Sorry, skip dessert. This goes for you especially if you have strict goals.

9- If you must have some sweets, share it with someone.

10- Don’t get too full.

11- Don’t forget your veggies.

12- If eating fried foods, take off the skin.

13- Don’t forget your fruit for breakfast.

Have a safe and healthy holiday season!

How to eat healthy when others around you don’t….

As a registered dietitian in private practice I hear so many excuses every day as to why a client cannot eat healthy. One of the biggest excuses is actually putting the blame on people around us instead of taking full responsibility for our actions. “My husband is a meat and potatoes kind of guy, hates fish”, “My children want junk food in the house”, “I dine out all the time in my line of work”, etc. Well, you could be the type that never changes or, you can decide enough with excuses and take action. My vote is the TAKE ACTION

Here is how you can do it:

1. Who cares if your husband only wants meat and potatoes….you can easily broil a hamburger for him and a piece of salmon for yourself. Give him a potato and let him put as much butter and sour cream on it as he likes…. top yours with just a pat of butter, or add some salsa or mustard. If he doesn’t want to eat a veggie…doesn’t mean you can’t make one for yourself. Hey who knows….he might start wondering why you want to eat healthy and don’t care about him…hmmmm?

2. If you are shopping for an entire family….remember YOU should be the role model NOT the children. Your children will develop your eating behaviors…if you never give them fruit or veggies, they will grow up not eating them. No reason you can’t have some cookies in the house….try and choose a brand that you don’t love. Trust me….it is amazing what kids can get use to.

3. A person could dine out 365 days a week, 3 meals a day, and still be healthy. Obviously, it is what you choose to order that makes the difference. If you have to dine out regularly for business that doesn’t mean you have to overeat every time. Show everyone that you care about yourself and prefer to eat healthy and feel at the top of your game….i would think that is a good quality not a negative. Why not be the leader? If you are at a steakhouse, start with a salad, have the dressing on the side, order a piece of broiled fish, a veggie sautéed with garlic and oil, and berries for dessert. You might be surprised at who follows your lead.

4. No one says you can’t have a cocktail or two while dining out or socializing with friends/family, BUT large quantities are obviously not going to be good for your waist line OR liver for that matter. What I recommend here is to once again choose wisely. Avoid any drinks made with juices, sweetened liquors, or regular soda. If you tend to be a 3 nights a drink person, consider reducing to 2 drinks and having a seltzer in between. I also suggest choosing the drink that you drink slower…for instance if you can down a six pack of beer, BUT sip a scotch….go with the scotch. My personal favorite is a vodka martini with olives, hold the vermouth, one usually does the trick.

5. Stop blaming your co-workers for the food they bring in. If a birthday is once a month, enjoy the piece of cake…but if it becomes almost daily you need to learn to say “NO thank you”. If a co-worker has candy on their desk, try and find a new route to your desk. If that is unavoidable, which it probably is, my advice is to be prepared. Have your own healthy snacks available daily, such as a piece of fruit and lowfat yogurt, handful of almonds, and string cheese. Remember, unfortunately your co-worker does not care about your waist line, but YOU should.

The list goes on and on with so many different scenarios and so many different excuses. The bottom line is that you can eat healthy when others around you don’t…you just have to care enough about yourself.
